16. September 2009 — Around Crecent Lake
Went down west on Highway 101 along Crecent Lake. Sat on the beach for while. Awesome drive around the lake. Then headed for camp ground. Had a chat with Annie (I think) from Canada and she gave me a hot chocolate. Not much to report for today..
17. September 2009 — Back to Seattle
Started off in the rain. Pretty miserable. Stopped in Forkes (setting of the Twilight book series). Found a little coffee shop with wifi and spend 2 hours browsing the web…
18. September 2009 — Got new tires and on to Portland
Tires arrived. Set of at 1pm. Rang Aaron who I had met on Olympic Peninsula. We arranged to met on the way and ride together to Portland. He was letting me stay at his place…
19. September 2009 — Hanging in Portland
Went for breaky with Aaron then got on the bikes and drove to the BMW store. Were standing in front of the store when a police officer showed up on his police bike.
20. September 2009 — More hanging out in Portland
Wasted the morning away but in a good way. Then we went over to Bandana’s house. I had met her during the PCT hike as well. We got a display of her mad balloon-animal-making skills. We then dragged her with us for Thai food…
21. September 2009 — Scary attempt at a corn maze
Went to some Island and braved a corn maze. Mainly due to pure luck and Nav’s legendary orienteering skills (ha ha ha) we made it out….
22. September 2009 — Down to the Pacific Coast
Set of at 10:30 and stopped for petrol and got talking to Don. He invited me for lunch. Good burger and fries, all washed down with a cold one…
23. September 2009 — Crash & nice evening
Started off uneventful. Went for breaky and then headed down the coast. I met Kevin on a Goldwing. I stopped at another viewpoint and started chatting to 2 German girls on holiday. We agreed to go for a coffee…
Had breakfast with Uli & Tine and then said our final goodbyes. Still heading down the coast on highway 101. I stopped at some lighthouse where I met Dave on his KLR. He was on a 3-4 month trip around the USA and Canada. Drove for a bit, had lunch at Subways. Camped together near Coos Bay….
24. September 2009 — Heading into California
Dave and me set off together and rode until mid day. Then Dave had to turn off for Eugene, Oregon. I continued on for a while until just after the Californian border….
26. September 2009 — Arrived at the HU meeting
Early start. First went back to highway 101 to get petrol at Fortuna and had coffee. Then started up the road we had abandoned the night before. Started off pretty misty but when we got above the clouds it was really beautiful….
27. September 2009 — HU meeting
Presentations and workshop for most of the day including one on off-road riding and first-aid. Evening more trip reports. Most noteworthy was from Doug who had just completed a second round-the-world…
28. September 2009 — Drive thru the Redwoods
Really slow start as always. I was one of the last to leave. Nice drive thru the Redwoods and down to Avenue of Giants. Saw a bike at a deli and stopped. Turned out to be Rob and Bridget from the HU meeting.
