Across Korea to Pusan

While I was packing the bike the owner of the guest house came out with two fried eggs. Nice of him to set me a challenge early in the morning - try eating fried eggs with chop sticks….

img 3218On the road by 9:30 and following the coast. I knew already that I was not allowed on motorways with my bikes so I thought I could follow this road all the way to Pusan. Oh no, standing in front of a motorway sign. Damn. Had to cut across inland and take another road. Good and bad. Good because it was an absolutely beautiful drive in the mountains. Bad because it was slow progress. Hardly made a 30 mile average. Thru towns a lot of traffic lights. On the “open road” a speed limit of 40 mph or 50 mph at the most. Still beautiful drive.

If you want to visit a country even more obsessed with speed cameras and CCTV snooping then visit Korea. Even in the middle of nowhere you see CCTV cameras on the side of the road.

img 3219For the 300 miles today it took me nearly 12 hours with only a few breaks. Then the fun started riding into Pusan. At least the signs are Korean and English but of course just because you can read “Seomyeon Jct” it does not help you much. You have no idea where this is in relation to where you want to go. GPS helped a little bit. So after some driving around I managed to find the port and then I had at least a reference to find the train station. Stopped at a hotel and the rates were OK with free breaky and internet.
