Astana but only short pit stop
Not very comfortable night and way to short. Just got 2 hours of sleep before we set off again. Stopped for breakfast which I actually wanted to pay but Juergen was quicker. The other truck driver was not really please about this and after a short argument he headed off. I think he was thinking I was getting a free ride there after last nights petrol incident. I think I overstayed my welcome a bit…
After breaky we started to look for a ramp to off load the bike but of course when you need one there isn’t one around for miles. Found one in the end and got the bike off the truck without incident. Juergen gave me his phone number and said I should call him when I get to Almaty and I could stay with him. I gave him some money for petrol.
After giving the bike a check over I set off. Dry today but still freezing cold. Last 100 miles into Astana is one big construction site. The way they build roads in Kazakhstan is mad. Basically they plow over a part of the steppe 10 -15 meters beside the actual road. Level it off, compact it and redirect traffic onto this dirt track. Parts were tricky mud, rocks etc.
Headed into Astana to find ATM which after a bit of searching I did find one. I don’t like big cities I have to say. So asked at a hotel on the road out of town and half day rate is ok but it means I have to be out of the room by 7:30 am.
Had dinner and then off to bed. Just as I was falling a sleep I hear knocking on the door. Little shit of a waiter is standing there with a couple of beers and wants to party in my room. Told him to f off. Get woken at 2am by telephone, same little shit saying if I want a beer. Grrr.
