Crash & nice evening
Started off uneventful. Went for breaky and then headed down the coast. I met Kevin on a Goldwing. I stopped at another viewpoint and started chatting to 2 German girls on holiday. We agreed to go for a coffee…
So got on the bike. Accelerated away standing up. Done this hundreds of times. Well this time a combination of things caught me out. Standing, spare tires on the back and slightly uphill. The front tire came up and I was totally unprepared so trying to sit down caused me to open the throttle more. I went over pretty hard. Damage report: Wind screen broken, speedo in thousand pieces, rev counter not working any more, fuel cans shredded, right mirror broken, helmet cracked and boxes bend. Stupidest thing I have done so far on this trip. Felt really sorry for Uli and Tine (the German girls). They must have gotten the shock of a live time.
So after getting myself settled and the bike back up and running we still went for that coffee. Sat on a wall in Lincoln City and chatted for at least 2 hours. Said goodbye and I headed down highway 101. Next view point who shows up - Uli & Tine. So saying hello & goodbye again. Few miles down the road I pulled into a state park to look at some lighthouse. Minutes later Uli & Tine pull in. So looked at the lighthouse and at some sea lions. We agreed to find a motel and go for a few beers together.
Found nice place directly at the beach. Little pricy but sharing with 3 people made it better. Wandered along the beach and watched the sunset. The lady owning the motel had started a fire and we got some marsh mellows from her.
We then when to the supermarket to buy beers and food for the morning. Sat by the fire until 2pm chatting away.
