Dirt road on Baja
Woke up and went for breakfast at a restaurant that had wifi. Checked emails etc. Then went back to the motel to pack up the bikes up. We headed out of town on a paved road that after 30 miles turned into a gravel road.
Mix of compacted dirt, loose gravel and some small bits of sand. Not too bad but progress was slow. We made it to Rancho Grande which was supposed to have a petrol station. It did but the pumps didn’t work. So down to half a tank and it was about 80 - 90 miles to the next petrol station. Hmm that could get interesting. From the petrol station we went 1 mile to the beach were people had told us there was a good restaurant. We had some food there but it wasn’t any thing special I have to say.
Asked about camping on the beach and they pointed to some umbrellas that you could rent about a mile away. Didn’t really suit us so we went down the road about 1.5 miles and turned onto a smaller dirt track. Camped there in the desert. David put his tarp down as a ground sheet and I put my ground sheet between our bikes as a sunshade for the morning. It gets bright very early at 6am and by 7am the sun is already burning down on you. Amazing night sky. Could see the milky way and a gazillion stars. There is just something about camping in the desert.
