Eat the Miles to Bari
Nice comfy sleep. Packed up and headed down to the cafe for a coffee & a pastry. Then headed off. At least dry and the further south and east I got the better it got. Took the autostrada again, because it was still quiet far to Bari and I wanted to leave myself an easy day for tomorrow…
So plan was to stay on the motorway til about 60 - 80 miles before Bari, then drive towards the coast and look for a camp ground. That would leave a nice and easy bit along the coast to the ferry. Got into a traffic jam where a lorry pile-up closed the motorway. Anyway made it to Foggie were I pulled of the motorway heading towards the coast.
My guess is this part of Italy’s Adriatic coast has seen better days. Most of the tourism things were pretty run down. All the camp grounds were either still closed for the season or just closed. So continued on along the coast but same spiel.
So started looking for an “unofficial” spot to camp. Not easy either. Finally found a spot in an Olive (I guess) grows. It was 10pm by that time and a clear skies so decided no tent required. I was pretty close to a busy road and it was not in my sleeping bag for an hour when I heard a car door. A guy from the vigilante stopped. I guess he spotted the bike in the bushes but said ok and no problemo. Right, got up anyway and parked the bike differently so it would be less obvious from the road.
Hit reserve on the tank at 270 miles. That was when I spotted the “camp ground”. So first thing tomorrow - get petrol.
