Further on towards Trabzon

So staid in this Bungalow (more like a garden shed) and the price included breaky. So set of after that and the road continued like yesterday - twisty bits but the surface was still bad. Was thinking about stopping for tea and a smoke when coming out of one of those small villages I see the Jandarma (local police) with a traffic control…

So I check my speed and that was ok I thought. So slowly rolled to a stop, killed the engine and started taking my helmet off. One guy started indicating that I should leave it on. Next thing I get a leaflet shoved into my hand and a camera goes off. I guess I will feature on the next safe motorcycling adds around Turkey. Anyway got off the bike and offered cigarettes to the jandarma. The next 30 min we tried to have a conversation. One of them - Murat (name of the other guy I forgot) - had a little bit of english and we somehow made each other understood. Of course forgot to take a picture of the two.

After this progress was still kind of slow up to Sinop where the road got wider and a little better. Then I got completely lost again in Samsun. where the coast road joined the main road Ankara - Samsun - Trabzon and major construction was taking place. Signs were of course pointing in all directions. So thought I go towards the general direction and join the main road later. Does not work - you go down a two lane road thinking this must be a major arteries thru town - for it to fizzle out into dirt tracks after 500m. So in the end I managed to get on to the right road in the right direction.

Carnage is the right word. Three lanes in each direction, one village after the other (with 50 km/h speed limit) and everybody doing 90 - 100. Funny enough the bothered to paint stripes for pedestrian crossings. Needless to say nobody is stopping for anything. Staying in a small hotel in Unya. Was looking for a campground but they again didn’t look to be open. And since the hotels are fairly cheap here I’m treating myself. Hotel is owned by a guy who lived in Germany so a chance to speak some German.
