Getting Misplaced Mörön
Disappointed no one came and made fire this morning. Service is slacking. Went for breaky and then was asked by the manager if I could bring the key for their motorboat to the guest house in Khatgal. Of course I could…
Left at 10:30am for the 20 mile drive. Section thru the forest didn’t seam as difficult today. Went to the guest house to drop the key off. Had a cup of tea and met a Dutch couple there. I then set off for the 60 miles to Mörön. Went actually fairly quickly and its funny that the drive back always feels a lot shorter. Stopped half way for a smoke on the top of a pass and ran into a group of American tourists. Chatted for a bit and one of them gave me two phone numbers in Alaska.
Back in Mörön I went to the shop and got petrol. Had some issues finding the right road leading out of town. The guide book said the road out to the airport would get me to the town I wanted to go to. So followed some tracks but they got smaller and smaller and were going too much to the north. So I swerved to the west on this small track hoping it would lead me to the main track. Stopped to check the map, GPS and guide book again when this minibus approached from behind. The guy on the passenger seat asked me in English where I was going and on telling him he told me that I would have to follow the more northerly track. He wasn’t sure if that one would have a bridge to cross the river. I would probably have to go back to Mörön were there is a bridge. OK, I told him I would probably just camp somewhere around here. He suggested I could camp near their camp.
So I followed the minibus for a mile to the river bank where their camp (4 gers and 10 tents) was. Its an archeological camp and nearby is a burial site from the bronze age (~3000 years old). I put my tend up 100 m away. Actually have to ask the guys name but anyway he came over with some food (Bread and a bowl with mutton, pasta and potato.
