Hitting the Dirt literally

After a quick breakfast we loaded up the bikes. We wanted to go back to the petrol station to buy some more water. David was in the front and I was following him doing about 30 - 35 mph when a small dirt track intersected with the main track.

img 4086That meant there was deep sand / gravel which send the bike into a wobble. I tried to slow down and control the weave but didn’t really work out. The bike went down pretty hard and so did I. I went over the handle bars and did a nose dive into the dirt. Funny thing was that my first reaction was to pick up the bike. Got on it and drove 250 yards were David had stopped. Then I had a chance to do a damage assessment. Handle bars bend, well that was easy to fix. Right hand mirror gone - again. I had bruised my hip and my rips were hurting. Not sure I think I landed on a rock or something. Assume I bruised my rips or actually cracked one. Anyway got our water and then we started off on the dirt again. Driving was ok. Not hurting too much.

img 4085Stopped at Coco’s Corner. Crazy place in the middle of nowhere. Just some shags and a veranda with panties hanging of the roof. Fences had beer and coke cans on them. Coco is a real character. He lost both his legs due to diabetes. Stayed for a drink and chatted with him for an hour or so. We hit the highway and drove down 20 miles were a guy was selling petrol from the back of his pickup truck. A bit of a rip off but for the 4 - 5 liters we bought it was ok.

An easy 40 miles to Bahia los Angeles. Javier’s sister-in-law owns a hotel there but when we asked there they quoted us $ 45. A little steep for us so we moved on. Had food at a road side restaurant. We went down the road to a camp ground and rented a straw roofed sun shade to camp under. Body feels pretty beaten up now. Lying down was agony.
