My time in Euskirchen, Germany

Ok so I staid a week with my mum. Pretty stressful, not at all because of my mum, but because of all the bits and pieces I had to do - order a spare throttle cable, book the bike in to get the spokes & rims adjusted. Also spend a day at my dads fixing stuff on the bike - extended the side stand, change the front brake disk and improve the seat fastening…

As usual me being me I left a lot of things to the last possible moment for example I only ordered spare tires on Monday evening and transferred money to my german account to buy travelers cheques. However everything worked out perfectly - more by pure luck I guess as one little hick up would have meant that in stead of leaving Saturday it would have been Monday. Making it necessary to change the ferry booking.

I don’t really have deadlines. Well I kind of do in a sense that my Kazakh visa expires end of May and if possible I would like to avoid the hassle of extending it. So the plan for the European leg of the trip is to get thru it as quickly as possible. Kind of strange - the whole time I’m having the feeling that the trip really only starts in Turkey.

Then again the other overshadowing feeling is that I’m not prepared enough, very much like back in school when sitting an exam you haven’t studied for.

The nice thing during the week was to chat to my friends via Skype - god bless the internet. Had an hour long chat with Mick in Japan, whom I plan to visit while my bike is in transit to North America. Also had a long chat with Eugenie in Sweden talking about this and that. Also talked to Henning and Morten the guys holding the fort back in Dublin. Have to say a big thanks to those two for all the help.
