Nice but tough drive to White Lake

Managed to get on the road by the usual time - 10am. Again had a little trouble finding the right track. Just so confusing but in the end managed. Fairly small “road” leading up this valley to a pass at 2000 m. Road was very rocky and pretty difficult to drive….

On the way down on the other side of the pass I met a English guy on a bicycle and we chatted for a little bit. I made it to Shine-Ider which pretty much looked like a Wild West Ghost Town.

img 3060Continued my drive to the next town were things got confusing again. Biggest issue is finding the right track out of town. Finally on the right way the drive was stunning along this river which looked very inviting to camp there but it was only 5:30pm. So on I went to White Lake. Had two river crossings which were easy and the jeeps and cars had made the them nice and shallow. I would love to see myself on video doing this stuff wink

Just avoided a major off when I saw a ditch in front of a ditch too late. Was just driving along on this good track, saw the bridge which looked fairly new. A few meters before I spotted this 30 cm deep and wide ditch. Slamed on the breaks but could not slow down enough. The impact was massive, straight thru the front forks. Could feel in the arms and shoulders. Managed to stay on the bike, but was a little shaken.

img 3033Few miles down the road I got flagged down by a Mongol herder with his bike. I stopped and he pointed up this grassy hill where I spotted another Mongol lying beside his bike. A finger flick to the side of the neck indicated that the guy was pissed and had fallen off. So with the other guy I climed up the hill and helped to put him on his bike again. I was wondering how he would get down this hill because it was pretty steep. I managed to let the bike roll down to the side of the road where it went down another 7 - 8 ft. Tried to indicate he should drive 10 m more where it wasn’t as high and steep. His mate had other ideas - a quick push and bike and drunken rider fell down on to the road. The two Mongols started a little banter and pushing each other. Since the fallen down guy had a rifle around his shoulder I thought I better get on my way. You never know it can turn from friendly to the worse fairly quickly. So after shaking hands I went on and let them to their devices.

Found a nice and quiet spot to camp at White Lake.
