Not quiet in Turkey yet

Thought I would easily make it into Turkey today eventhough it was still something like 290+ miles. Ride started good on the motorway and around Thessaloniki. Still motorway driving is boring. Anyway for lunch I stopped at a small resort town and got ice cream, bread & canned fish. Sat on the beach to eat and got hassled by some flea infested stray dog. He just wanted to play but chewing into my jacket was enough. Finished my lunch under a tree in the shade without the dog….

Rest of the drive was boring motorway as well. Just eventfull thing was that it started to rain (again). Probably 5 miles before the border I pulled off the motorway to refuel as petrol is much more expensive in Turkey (Greece 0.90 - 0.99 Euro, Turkey ~ 1.60 Euro). While I was paying a guy approched me asked if I’m from Dublin etc. Turned out he was Lenny driving a truck and from Birmingham on his way to Turkey. We had a coffee and a smoke and started chatting. After another coffee and a couple of cigarettes I did not really have an urge to continue on into Turkey.
img 2515 Lenny said another driver from the same company was on his way. So fine, decision made I would stay there. Was still raining on and off. So Dave (Trigger) arrived and we started talking bikes. After I while we headed to the restaurant beside the petrol station for some food. It was really a fun night, there was a wedding on in a tent beside the restaurant but most of the men were all in the restaurant watching the Greek cup final (football). I don’t even know who was playing but it was decided by the longest penalty shootout I have ever watched. Final score 15-16. Penalties took longer then the first half. It was pretty late by the time we left the restaurant and I thought I would just crash somewhere between the trucks or so. But turned out the parking lot was all kind of clay and wet. Dave kindly offered I could sleep in his truck’s cabin. A pretty tight fit. Dave and myself a not the smallest blokes. So another first on the trip “sleep in a truck” - check.
