Uralsk and admin crap
Slept really well and after breakfast of bread and fried fish. Said my heart felt thanks and goodbyes. Short drive into Uralsk. City was bigger then I thought and had some trouble finding the city center. But managed to find the office of Ural Gas & Oil…
Had gotten Chengiz name from Greg so just showed up and asked for him. Chengiz was very helpful and he said that if I wait for an hour he would have his lunch break and he could guide me to the hotel and the police station were I could register my visa. So sat in the office coffee room for a bit and then Chengiz led the way in his car.
Hotel pretty typical old Soviet style hotel. Cheap but completely run down. Bit of a kip but they had guarded parking in the back. On check-in I forgot to ask for a bill, which turned out to be a problem when I tried to register my visa. Walked to the police station and luckily met El there. He spoke good English so was able to help me fill out the forms which are of course only in Russian. They wanted proof of where you are staying. Doh. So 1.5 km walk back to hotel to ask the administrator lady for bill. She was pretty mift. So be it. Back to police station and now no problem. I actually had looked forward to an afternoon of sightseeing but by the time I was finished with the visa stuff it was already 5pm. Got something to eat in a cafe in shopping center and then an early night.
