Weather gods still not my friends

Tried this morning to be quicker on the road but no real success. Even without bike maintenace only made it around 9.45. Nice drive at the beginning thru the Austrian Alps. Sun came out but then during the climb up to Reschenpass it started to drissle and you could see the higher you got that the second border crossing was all shrouded in clouds…

The first few kilometers in Italy the visiability was zero. My plan had been to take B-roads along Lago di Garda but once I reached Bolzano I had decided aqgainst it. By then the rain had increased and you could not have seen the Lago. So tried to avoid the autostrada and staid on the B-roads - nice driving but slow progress so in Rovereto tried to got on the motorway to get out of the mountains and hopefully better weather.

So in the driving rain pulled up to the ticket machine. On the bike this is not a quick thing - bike into neutral, gloves off, press button, stuff ticket somewhere dry (not many places left), put gloves back on, bike into gear. So of course I got flustered, thinking I was taking to long and holding people up. I stuffed the ticket into one off my outside pockets, the non-waterproofed one and drove off. In my self-inflicted haste missed the on-ramp and ended on the ramp going back in the directiong I had just come from. Anoyed with myself I had to stop for a smoke and try to salvage what was left of the ticket. So 10km to the next exit. Which also meant going thru Rovereto town center again. Enough autostrada for me at that moment.

I staid on the B-road until Verona where after a quick calculation I discovered that my progess up to that point was crap. Hours of riding and only 200 miles or so to show for. Still something like 500 miles to Bari. So back onto the autostrada and this time - take it easy at the ticket machine - it takes the time its going to take. Ticket savely tucked away it was 60 miles to Modena. Still driving rain and evil cross winds. Sometimes had to keep the bike in one lane.

By 6:30pm I had enough. Like a drenched puddel I enquired at the first hotel but they were to dear. So half a mile down the road I saw a sign for camere thats were I am. Cost me 50 Euro but by that time I didn’t care. Hot shower, a beer and something to eat and Marko was happy again.
