Wonderful ride in northern Greece
Ferry docked in Igoumenitsa early in the morning, we’re talking 5:15 or so. Headed straight out into the mountains not before the GPS had gotten me misplaced. Coverage is not the best in Greece. Again took B-roads instead of motorway and boy what a good choise….
The E-90 and E-92 going east towards Thessaloniki was stunning. Fast corners (knee on the asphalt kind of stuff, not me , but those kind of corners. The weather was not the best but it mad for stunning scenery with the low hanging clouds in the valleys. Did the 60 miles or so to Ioannina where I stopped to buy some breaky and had a coffee. Continued on thru the mountains via Grevena where I stopped to refuel and coffee. Chatted to the attendant at the petrol station how had lived in Germany. Decided to head to the coast south of Thessaloniki for a day off tomorrow. Because its a bank holiday in Greece as well. Also need to do some bike maintenance. Loose chain etc. Nearly lost it in Veria not sure why - either low tire pressure in the front or really shiny pollished road surface. In town, not really fast, trying to take a sharp bend and felt the front slip under breaking. Corrected and ran wide, narrowly avoiding a car. Would not have been a major accident but pride would have been hurt. Made it to the coast to find camp ground but again not as easy. Found nice guesthouse which was reasonable in Korinos. Examined the bike this evening. Chain is extremely loose, causing to hit my chain oiler and had ripped one of the cable ties which then had rubbed against the wheel rim. hu hu hu my nice new Excel rims all rubbed blank. Oh well if that is all, fine. Headed into Paralia for something to eat. Kind of a touristy place.
